Why Train at Duke?
The opportunities available in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University are incredible. We have a large, thriving multidisciplinary department and boast faculty members with expertise in evidence-based treatment of mental illness, community mental health, substance use disorders, geriatric psychiatry, brain stimulation, child and adolescent psychiatry, psychiatric epidemiology, and integrated care. We have wonderful clinicians and psychotherapists, a highly-regarded Family Studies clinic, and opportunities for individual and group psychotherapy supervision in the later years of training. We have researchers pushing the boundaries of knowledge in neuroscience in disciplines ranging from the most basic science to clinical science…and with plenty of translational efforts. The Duke Global Health Institute offers some opportunity for application to Global Health Residencies, and there are some international opportunities for qualified upper-level residents in Psychiatry to experience. During your training at Duke we encourage you to become critical consumers of the medical literature and to work to apply the best available evidence to the care of your patients.
Residents at Duke work hard, make good use of plentiful opportunities, find their passions, and develop into skillful psychiatrists who know how to use medications and psychotherapeutic interventions for the good of their patients.
