The Department of Psychiatry in partnership with the Hubert-Yeargan Center for Global Health and the Duke Global Health Institute offers residents the opportunity to participate in several Global Health training programs and activities, including:
- Duke Global Health Residency and Fellowship Program, Global Health-Psychiatry Pathway [1]

Global Health Elective
There are 4 ways to do a global health elective:
1) Apply as a PGY-2 for the 18-month Psychiatry track of the Duke Global Health Residency Program. This track occurs during PGY-3 and PGY-4, and includes 9-months coursework towards a Master of Science degree in Global Health, mentored research and 9-months in-country international experience. Locations for the GHR track in Psychiatry include Moshi, Tanzania and Eldoret, Kenya.

2) Apply as a PGY-2 or PGY-3 for a short-term (3-month) Global Health elective through the Duke Hubert-Yeargan Center for Global Health. Locations for the Hubert-Yeargan elective open to Psychiatry include Moshi, Tanzania; Eldoret, Kenya; Galle, Sri Lanka; and Northern Navajo Medical Center (Indian Health Service), Shiprock, New Mexico. http://dukeglobalhealth.org/
3) Work with Dr. Thrall to arrange a global health elective at a site with whom we already have a Training Letter of Agreement, such as Auckland, New Zealand, or the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore. These sites typically host residents for 6 to 12 months.
4) Work with Dr. Thrall and a faculty advisor to design a global health elective at a site with whom we will need to write a new Training Letter of Agreement.
